A Yankee Summary of the Brexit Situation: Bregret

Editor’s Note: as those of you who regularly visit my site may have noticed, it’s been quite a number of days since I’ve published any new content – so many days in fact, that I’m starting to feel guilty about the various small donations I’ve received over that time. At this point, it’s safe to say I’ve hit a darkened corner and the only way out is going to be to write my way through the problem. In light of this, I’m likely going to be publishing some shorter pieces that just might not be up to snuff as it were; until such a time as I get my mojo back – my apologies in advance for posts like this one friends; things will be back to normal soon I hope. Also, please accept my deepest apologies to New Order, fans of New Order and British people in general:

Bregret

Maybe I’ve forgotten, Tony Blair and all his mess,
but everyone that voted go,
has nothing but Bregret.
Can we have another say?
Johnson’s got another scam & Farage is nuts they say

I would like a State I could call my own,
have no goddamn patience for non-Anglo drones,
shake up Merkel’s day; that would be a start,
maybe we can blame it all on Joseph Hart?

I was upset you see,
by faces unlike mine,
Euros are complete strangers,
Pounds do me fine

I didn’t even trust Leave,
but something had to give,
we’re sick of legal limits,
the poor just want to live
You may think it’s a kind of scam,
you’re not naïve, I understand
On this occasion it’s just true,
look at us, we fucked you

I would like a State I could call my own,
have no goddamn patience for non-Anglo drones,
shake up Merkel’s day; that would be a start,
maybe we can blame it all on Joseph Hart?

I’ve got a short fuse,
Corbyn’s ass is mine
I refused to see the danger,
now I’ll opine

I would like a State I could call my own,
have no goddamn patience for non-Anglo drones,
shake up Merkel’s day; that would be a start,
maybe we can blame it all on Joseph Hart?

Just wait till tomorrow,
I’ll likely be dead anyway
Can’t we blame it on Joe Hart?

– Nina Illingworth, with all required apologies to New Order

Is this essentially shitposting? In a word – yes. Although I tried to separate the various political viewpoints surrounding a Leave vote into the song, my primary goal was obviously to commit a hate crime against the music of New Order; I stand before the court guilty as charged. For those of you under 35 who’re currently wondering “what the fuck is Nina going on about this time” the original song can be found here:
