Essay: Lying Without Lying (Link)

Editor’s note: as part of the massive site re-organization I’m doing in the new year here in 2021 I’m transferring some offsite writing and links to such, over here to ninaillingworth.com; including this banging Media Theory essay from late 2018. Mostly I’m doing this for readers who want a way to find “all of the articles” I’ve written in one place; at least in so much as that is possible. Why now? Because there’s really never a good time to post old content, but with so many new reader requests I might as well tip off the year and the decade with a consolidation project.

Please note that I’ve back-dated this post to December 2018 when it was originally published over on my Patreon Blog, and it is in fact one of my best essays.

Originally published on December 12th, 2018, this longform essay represents my most ambitious (at that point) study of media bias, distortions and propaganda in a capitalist, or rather neofeudalist society. In particular I focused on the seemingly innocuous uses of framing, context and depth to demonstrate the vast discrepancy between how issues that benefit the rich, and issues that benefit the labor class, are presented in an all-encompassing corporatized and indeed billionaire-controlled media environment.
