The Skinny: September Strain on Patreon

Editor’s note: as part of a project to turn ninaillingworth.com into a central hub for all of my writing (thanks to ongoing censorship of my work by giant tech companies) I’m spending the next little while cross-posting older material from other platforms.

What In Hell Is A Skinny?

This post, which was originally published on September 19th, 2019, was my first attempt at what has become a popular irregular feature among my readers: The Skinny. What is The Skinny? A semi-regular, informal journal, published on my (always free-to-read) Patreon Blog, that collects, cleans up, and expands on my work from social media. So, in other words, a blog; and in this case specifically, one that lets me share my thoughts with readers when I’m frankly too burnt out or busy to spend all night on Google, hunting down a million citations.

Unfortunately, when I first started compiling editions of The Skinny, I envisioned it as a much more traditional journal-style endeavor, and thus I lumped various threads of analysis together by date, rather than topic. As it turns out, that’s a bad idea and makes for confusing, mixed salad-type posts, that are impossible to sort and categorize later. While I’ve since learned my lesson, I don’t have a time machine and the content I’ve already published, is the content I’ve already published; there’s no turning back now.

In this post I talk about (then) ICE minion Ken Cuccinelli’s plan to literally copy Nazi propaganda techniques against immigrants, and Buzzfeed’s willingness to frame that as a law and order issue. Then we transition into even more media f*ckery by looking at mainstream liberal outlets and their attempts to gaslight away Biden’s objectively racist nonsense about social workers teaching Black families to “leave the record player on at night” for reasons that are really only clear if you’re a septuagenarian cracker like Biden is. Finally I close by looking at the stunning mendacity of Working Families Party leader/spokesman Maurice Mitchell and his dishonest efforts to weaponize smears against Bernie Sanders, to justify betraying the poor with his party’s rigged endorsement vote for Liz Warren.

“At this point there is now a staggering amount of evidence that Biden is more than just a pragmatic white liberal who feels compelled to work with racist elements in government to get anything done. It is clear that Joe Biden’s fundamental understanding of race, poverty and advantage in U.S. society is thoroughly corrupted by right wing talking points about single parent African American families and a whole load of bootstrap mythology. That isn’t a lie, that isn’t a smear; that’s an objective analysis of not only Joe Biden’s decades in government but also his day to day statements in this very campaign – this issue is now way too obvious to keep brushing under the rug by mentioning Biden’s personal relationship with President Obama; a relationship initially forged in the realpolitik belief that Biden could deliver cracker Democrats to a black presidential candidate in the first place.”
