The Skinny: Impeachment Politics, Targeting and Anti-Climate Flak

Editor’s note: as part of a project to turn ninaillingworth.com into a central hub for all of my writing (thanks to censorship of my work by giant tech companies) I’m spending the next little while cross-posting older material from other platforms; we’re currently crawling towards the end of 2019.

Culture War Objector

Hello from the future! Recently (March 2021) I found myself engaged in a tedious argument with a liberal friend and former colleague who’d read my last piece about Kyrsten Sinema and “progressive” politics. Towards the end of our discussion, my friend asked me that now tiresome question “why don’t you go after Republicans more in your work?” Given that I’ve just spent the better part of the last year writing about almost nothing but fascism, the question itself was of course absurd. More frustrating however is that try as I might, I could not find my essay about precisely this subject to share with him; an essay that turns out to be part of this September 27th, 2019 edition of The Skinny, over on my free-to-read Patreon Blog.

In addition to talking about the ideological and explicitly anti-culture war leanings of my ongoing work, I also devoted this edition of The Skinny to explaining why feckless Democrat propagandists had already taken the value out of impeaching Trump during the Ukraine saga, and why corporate media had little interest in reporting on the dark money funding behind campaigns to discredit teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg. Passing moments in the news cycle? Perhaps, but given that the same feckless Democrat desire to wash all their crooked clean continued to hamper impeachment efforts against Trump for his role in the January 6th, 2021 fascist coup attempt on Capitol Hill, and the media is still largely ignoring the establishment right dark money connections to the fascists who conducted that coup, nothing in American politics is ever really “old news.”

“If you take a step back and look at the larger political and class warfare picture however, the exposure of this right wing pro-fossil fuel industry propaganda network lying in plain sight does bring up a number of interesting, if not downright disturbing questions.
If a network of right wing elites can literally up and buy a revolution to protect Wall Street, promote climate science denial and smear left wing activists at will in the public sphere, what else might rich people with ulterior motives be capable of? If the reason the vast majority of people have ever even heard of the Koch Network behind this propaganda machine is pretty much entirely because they broke class solidarity and attacked their “liberal” peers in the media, what happens when the mass murdering billionaire liars *don’t* break class solidarity and both “sides” of the mainstream media agree that the proles don’t need to know?”
