Film Sessions: Deconstructing Ben Shapiro on Some More News

Editor’s note: after struggling against online censorship and some procrastinating, I’m getting around to reorganizing my website. As part of that process, I’m posting links to older content that I will never find again otherwise.

This activity is beyond tedious, but necessary for my archives. Please bear with me in the meantime and thanks for all your support.

Humiliating the Hypothetical Hate Leprechaun

Have you ever wanted to watch someone rhetorically (sorry Ben’s lawyers, I’m not an idiot) power-slam Ben Shapiro’s obnoxious face into the pavement until even his worst enemy starts begging for mercy on his behalf? Who the hell am I kidding; of course you have – who hasn’t? Well thanks to the always amusing and articulate Cody Johnston over at Some More News, now you can engage in this pleasurable activity for seventy whole minutes.

In this late-November blog on Media Madness, I share and briefly analyze “Perhaps Ben Shapiro Shouldn’t Be Taken Seriously By Anyone About Anything” as not only a savage take down, but also as a critique of Ben Shapiro’s intellectual philosophy; such as it is. Working on Ben’s own stated terms, Johnston carefully and humorously demonstrates that Shapiro is a fatheaded fraud hate goblin who should be exiled from public life immediately. Whether you’re watching for business, or leisure, Cody delivers the hammer drop on Ben’s nonsense in a way that is a high form of performance art in its own right – you won’t want to miss it.

“Of course, it could be argued that eviscerating Shapiro is an activity akin to plucking low hanging fruit; you point out that he’s a racist, a lackey propagandist for reactionary billionaires (most notably the Wilks brothers and the extended Koch donor network) and that he’s about as tall as a hobbit. And to be fair, Johnson does touch on these subjects, but what makes this episode of Some More News so interesting is that it actually engages Ben Shapiro on his own terms, or at least his own stated terms – “logic, facts and reason.” Starting from the simple question “is Ben Shapiro stupid, or a liar” and working his way through numerous clips of Ben’s public appearances and videos, Johnson repeatedly answers his own question without actually saying so; factually, Ben Shapiro isn’t stupid, but rather a brazen liar who thinks you’re stupid.”
