Some Mini Skinnys and A Minor Course Alteration

Editor’s note: the Mini-Skinny is a social media analysis post that aggregates all of my relevant material about a single subject, over the course of a single day.

Once More With Feeling

Well folks, this is a little awkward and I am laden with a stomach full of holiday food, so I’ll try to keep this brief. Over the past month and a half, I’ve been working on learning to write with a long term, cyclical illness. Given that this illness, colloquially known as “long covid,” affects my energy levels, ability to concentrate, and bizarrely my ability to control my temper, it’s safe to say writing longer essays has been difficult. I’ve responded to this by doing a metric f*ckton of blogging over on Media Madness, the NIDC Facebook Page, and my Instagram account.

As a whole, the blogging gig has been working out reasonably well. Unfortunately I’m still struggling to churn out more than roughly four essay-length pieces a month, and while I don’t want to clutter up this website with a links to a bunch of individual blog posts, it seems kind of weird to be writing thousands of words per month for my social media followers and still rarely updating this page.

I’ve tried to solve this with our In the Aggregate posts, but I’m not really sure I like that solution. The posts are ultimately too long, too all over the place, and too exhausting to edit and compile; so much so that putting them together might actually be stopping me from writing more essays. Recently then, I’ve been tinkering around with less-intensive post formats that will allow me to share some, but not all, of my blogging material here on NIDC. Today I’d like to introduce the product of those efforts, a new type of post called the Mini-Skinny, over on Can’t You Read; I’ve linked to the first four editions below.

The Mini-Skinny is essentially a shorter, more focused version of In the Aggregate that collects only a single day’s worth of social media analysis, about a single topic. Will every blog post make its way into a Mini-Skinny? No; only when I have interrelated posts that more or less equal an essay in quantity and quality. If you want to see all the posts, all the artwork, and all the quote memes, you should just subscribe to the appropriate social media accounts. This will however make it easier for casual readers to follow my writing without a huge time investment, and it should allow me to remind my subscribers that yes, I’m still writing, more regularly.

You can check out these first four editions of the Mini-Skinny by clicking on the title headers, or the image buttons below:

Of course, if you’re already following me on Media Madness, the NIDC Facebook Page, and my Instagram account, you won’t need to read the Mini-Skinny; but given just how much I’m still being censored on social media, it probably can’t hurt to have another link to my work floating around online. To these readers I humbly ask that you forgive the intrusion of an extra update notification while I continue to find an audience for my work in an actively hostile (to the left) social media environment.

Thanks for all your patience in advance.
